The Last Salvation: Exclusive first look!

Well I'm hard at work writing the final part in my thriller trilogy, and I thought you'd like a wee taster. So just for you, here is the prologue of the third and final part of the Dougie Allan trilogy and the sequel to The Seventh Day & Shadows Rising, I'd love to have your first impressions, so feel free to post a comment.

“Do not be afraid; our fate

cannot be taken from us; it is a gift.”

Dante Alighieri, Inferno

The Last Salvation - By Andy Malone - Prologue

Looking back, no one would have expected events to unfold the way they did. After those terrible disasters left the world in turmoil. People sought leadership, they needed hope and UNITY had masterfully positioned itself in a place to deliver it. At first, the attraction was simply out of popularity and the need to belong. But in time, millions abandoned traditional faiths. Seduction and coercion twisted enthusiasm into blind devotion with catastrophic consequences. Religious ambition morphed quickly into political ambition, and irrevocably for UNITY’s devious leadership. Ambition became the path to absolute power.

After revealing his true self, Michael, UNITY’s malevolent and mysterious leader, moved quickly to enforce his authority by invoking martial law worldwide. A move that brought a wave of political and religious condemnation. But as rumours of inexplicable accidents and disappearances began to circulate. The chorus of descent gradually subsided into nothing more than a whisper.

With UNITY flags fluttering over empty gloomy cities and heavily armed police on every corner, laws are brutally enforced to ensure public order is in place to “Protect the purity of the faith.” These include, limitations on the use of telecommunications and the internet. Unauthorised national and international travel. Citizens may only walk the streets between 6am and 8pm. Failure to adhere to these rules could invite imprisonment or worse. Now, you would think that knowing all these terrible things, the average man would probably hide and take refuge. But, for a growing number, fear has a way of changing a man, a way of giving him focus. If faced with his own mortality, this kind of man will join forces with others to fight back. Once this happens, he is no longer part of a resistance, he is now part of a revolution.
